Winneba Junction gets ambulance service

Apam, May 31, GNA – The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service has provided an ambulance service at Winneba Junction to serve the people of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Gomoa, and Agona districts.

Mr B K Nketiah, Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Fire Officer, announced this at Apam on Tuesday when he introduced the staff of the ambulance service to the Gomoa District Coordinating Director Mr Fred Addae. Mr Nketiah, who also exercises oversight responsibility over the Gomoa District Fire Station, said the ambulance service was to offer emergency services to people who needed health care. He said persons who needed the service could dial 999-192 explaining that the service was not meant to convey corpses to mortuaries or otherwise.

“The service is meant for the living but not fore the dead,” the Fire Officers stated.

Mr Addae said the service had come to boost the National Health Insurance Scheme since it would help resolve some problems faced by families in their attempt to seek emergency services for their seriously sick relatives.

The DCD said the ambulance service would help to reduce maternal mortality, mainly due to the lack of transport to convey pregnant women to the nearest health facility during labour. He advised the staff to take good care of the vehicle and to ensure its regular maintenance.
