Winneba Government Hospital gets an ambulance

Accra June 10, GNA – The Winneba Government Hospital on Friday received an ambulance worth about 40,000 euros from the Ghana Health Service (GHS). The ambulance was donated to the GHS by the Mother and Child Foundation, a non-governmental organization founded by the First Lady, Mrs Theresa Kufuor.

Professor Agyemang Badu-Akosa, Director-General of the GHS, said the ambulance was given to the Winneba Hospital because of the considerable number of accidents that occurred on the Accra – Winneba Road. Dr Godfred Morrison, Health Director of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District, who received the donation, said the ambulance would be used for it intended purpose. He said: “It will enhance health care delivery in the District.”

Mrs Theresa Kufuor said a Norwegian philanthropist, Mr Torstein Eker, donated the ambulance to her organization. The Foundation also donated health equipment worth 100,000 euros to the GHS. The items included, hospital beds, wheelchairs, theatre equipment, different types of drugs and a dialysis machine.

The First Lady explained that a German philanthropist, Mr Mike Nielson, donated the items to her organization. Professor Akosa said the equipment would be distributed equitably to all hospitals and health centres in the country. “The drugs would be distributed according to the need of every health centre,” he said. He expressed the hope that staff of the various health centres would use them for the benefit of the patients.
