Winneba Council of Churches organize Peace Forum

Winneba, April 28, GNA- The acting Awutu- Effutu-Senya District Chief Executive, Captain Steve Kwamena Armah (Rtd), has lauded the efforts of the Winneba branch of the Local Council of Churches for contributing effectively towards the campaign against HIV/AIDS. Capt. Armah who addressed a forum dubbed: “Peace for the Nation” forum organized by the Council at Winneba said the churches had initiated a number of HIV/AIDS intervention programmes that had raised public awareness about the pandemic.

The forum was aimed at ensuring peaceful celebration of the annual “Aboakyer” festival of the Effutu Traditional Area, scheduled for May 7. Capt. Armah charged members of the Council to extend the support they have given to the HIV/AIDS educational programme to cover the National Mutual Insurance Scheme to ensure effective take off and sustenance of the scheme, which would offer free medical services, especially to the poor and vulnerable.

He said the District Assembly had voted huge sums of money for the training of student nurses and teachers who would be posted to the area after graduation.
