Winneba citizens protest against shoddy work

Winneba, March 8, GNA – Members of the Winneba Concern Citizens Association has expressed concern about the poor quality of work being done on the rehabilitation of some roads in the town.

Mr Yakubu Barry, Chairman of the Association, told newsmen in Winneba on Saturday said the Ministry of Roads and Transport awarded the rehabilitation of some roads with money from the Road Fund on contract. According to him the contractor has employed masons to patch cracks and plastering the already weak gutters while potholes on the roads are only being filled instead resurfacing before spreading bitumen on the road.

He said while the Association appreciates the efforts of the government to rehabilitate the roads with huge sums of money they would not allow scarce resources to go waste.

Mr James Paa Durban, Assemblyman for Mburambam Electoral Area, said workers of the company claim they were working according to the contract specifications.

He said all attempts to get access to the contract documents had proved futile and appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Transport and Ghana Highways Authority to clarify the situation.
