Winneba 2012 Aboakyer festival launched

The Nifahene of Effutu Traditional Area, Nana Kofi Takyi IV, has appealed to the people of Winneba to celebrate this year’s Aboakyer festival successfully and in a peaceful manner devoid of violence.

He made the appeal when he launched the 2012 Aboakyer Festival celebration at Winneba on Tuesday.

A programme of celebration of the festival released to the press, stated that the festival will start on April 26 to May 5 and is under the theme “Peace and unity-key for development.”

The programme stated that, on April 26, Tuafo Youth would inaugurate their activities and Dentsifo Youth would do theirs on April 27.

There will be Health Walk/Marathon and clean up exercise in the town on April 28.

The festival will reach its climax on May 5 when the two Asafo companies, Tuafo Number One and Dentsifo Number Two will go to the bush to capture a live deer in the morning.

The first animal to be brought to the durbar ground will be used to perform rites for the prosperity of the town.

Nana Kofi Takyi, urged the people to put the past bickering behind and forge ahead for development and added “we have lost a lot in the past”.**
