Windstorm renders scores homeless at Nkwanta

Several residents of Kwamipong Nkwanta have been rendered homeless after a two-day windstorm ripped off the roofs of their homes and collapsed some structures.

Affected residents have converted church auditoriums into their places of abode.

Meanwhile, the assemblyman for the area, Godwin Gbeko, several distress calls made to authorities, especially the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), have fallen on deaf ears.

Alfred Agyemang, the Eastern Regional Operations Officer of NADMO, speaking to Class News’ Eastern Regional correspondent McAnthony Dagyenga, said due to the change in government, activities at NADMO had come to a standstill and suggested the victims seek help from the district assembly.

“It is the responsibility of the assembly to help them. First port of call is the assembly. After the election, nobody has mentioned anything about NADMO and I can tell you we don’t even have a pin in the office,” he stated.
