WILDAF presents list of competent women to Prez Mahama

Gender advocacy group, WILDAF has petitioned President Mahama to consider more women for appointment in his government when he is sworn in as President on January 7.

The group has also submitted a list of competent women that it believes the president can choose from to serve in his next government.

The Programmes Manager of WILDAF, Frank Bodza told XYZ News there is no reason why women should not get more places in the cabinet of President Mahama.

“We have petitioned the president to ensure that at least a minimum of 40 percent representation as contained in the NDC’s 2008 manifesto and in NDC’s 2012 manifesto… we want them to fulfill their promises to the Ghanaian electorate,” he said.

He said the group would want women to occupy every available position in the country if need be and they have proven in the past to be very competent when given the opportunity.

WILDAF has also waded into the debate of who becomes Ghana’s next speaker of the sixth parliament by calling for the current speaker to be retained or another female appointed in her stead.

He said ensuring that a woman continues to be the Speaker of Parliament will be a major plus for the nation and the course to depeen gender equality.
