Mrs Regina Quaye, Wife of the Inspector General of Police and President of Police Wives Association (POLWA) at the weekend cautioned members not to register minors in the biometric registration exercise.
She gave the caution in Sunyani at a ceremony aimed at rejuvenating the regional branch of the association to rope in all wives of police personnel and help equip them with skills and knowledge to support their husbands.
Mrs Quaye urged the police wives to patronise the registration exercise in order to exercise their franchise in the December elections, reiterating that, the old voter identification cards would not be accepted during the polls.
“The police have a lot to do in maintaining peace and order in our communities, especially in this election year”, she said and urged members of the association to create a conducive environment at home to enable their husbands to have the peace of mind to perform their duties.
The IGP’s spouse stressed that, any domestic disturbance at home could affect the performance of their husbands in their operations.
Mrs Quaye asked the women to learn trades and engage in lucrative economic activities to support their husbands in the upkeep of the home.
She asked them to encourage their husbands to accept transfers since people in other communities where they would be posted to also needed their services.
“I urge you to respect each other and stop backbiting so you can live peacefully at the police barracks,” she added.
Nana Ampene Yeboaah, Queen mother of Chiraa near Sunyani, who presided over the meeting, called on the police to be neutral in the performance of their duties and to avoid associating themselves with any political party.
She asked the women to learn to keep the secrets of their husbands’ profession and not to reveal details about their operations and movements to the public.
Nana Saa Gyamfuah II, Queen mother of Anyimaa near Nkoranza advised members of the association to be good managers at home and not to spend their monies on clothing and social activities at the expense of the education of their children.
Mrs Raveen Ali, Brong Ahafo Regional President of POLWA, expressed concern about the recent killings of police officers in the course of performing their duties by criminals and called on the Ghana Police Service to supply the personnel with protective gear.**
