It has emerged that Members of Parliament (MPs) were bent against the withdrawal of the Special Prosecutor Bill which was earlier laid before parliament for consideration because they lost their sitting allowances.
“The more bills [brought before parliament] the more money they get to push those bills and they are excited. …so when the bills are not coming they get a little worried”, Dr. Ernest Kwarko with the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital alleged.
“I have to agree that their core business in parliament is making laws but they are also suppose to check the executives”, the medical practitioner pointed out.
He also said, the lawmakers should take upon themselves to summon ministers, departmental heads and agencies for questions concerning the work they do.
“Cross examine them and put them into scrutiny and be out there to take people views and articulate them in parliament if the bills are not coming”, Dr. Ernest Kwarko admonished on Ultimate FM’s Factfile.
According to him, because bills are not coming to parliament for consideration, the lawmakers now find themselves in a medical condition called “withdrawal symptoms”.
The government withdrew the Special Prosecutor’s Bill from parliament after the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affair raised issues with portions of it.
But Dr. Ernest Kwarko believes this will enable the government to rectify all anomalies to make it acceptable to the both sides of the house after their recess.
