What have we gained after years of galamsey – Gifty Anti

TV broadcaster Gifty Oheneyere Anti has called on Ghanaians to join the fight against illegal mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’.

The elegant journalist who doubles as women and children right advocate took to her Instagram page to asked a thought provoking question about the illegal mining menace.

“After years of destroying our water bodies and forest for mining what have we gained?”

“This is a media campaign to put pressure on government to put a stop to galamsey, mainly because to its dire consequences. All our river bodies, including waterfalls have been destroyed.

Farm lands have been taken over completely. Meanwhile, after all these years of ‘proper’ mining in this country, what do we have to show for it?”

“Obuasi and Johannesburg have almost the same quantity of gold and started mining almost around the same time. Yet, what do we have to show for it?”

The veteran journalist indicated that she is fully involved in the campaign being spearheaded by the media fraternity to end galamsey and used the opportunity to call for support of all Ghanaians who believe in this worthy cause.

She however stated that if any persons found her stance offensive, they should pardon her.
