Western Region TUC honours workers

Takoradi, May 3, GNA – The Western Regional Secretariat of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Friday awarded some 30 workers who have contributed to the growth of their various unions at Takoradi. The award winners, who were selected from all 17 unions of the TUC, received various prizes, including television sets, stereo systems and certificates.

In an address, Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, the Regional Minister, said Ghana’s democracy had come of age with the peaceful change of government through the ballot box. He said this notwithstanding the country was yet to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. He said Ghana was on track in efforts to reduce by half the size of people living on less than one dollar a day.

Mr Aidoo assured that Ghanaians would find relief under the National Democratic Congress and reiterated government’s commitment to promoting a better Ghana with real opportunities for gainful employment, prosperous enterprises and social and economic welfare. He advised workers to do away with negative attitude at workplaces and get down to real work in order to make life better. “Let us avoid waste, lateness, absenteeism and laziness at our workplaces and ensure cost effectiveness in whatever we do,” he added.
