Western Region should be divided for equity-Former Minister.

A former Regional Minister for the Western Region, Joseph Boahene Aidoo is backing calls for a new region to be carved out of the western region of Ghana.

A pressure group, the Sefwiman Development Association, has been on the forefront of the campaign for the northern part of the western region to be demarcated for a new region.

The group believes the resource rich town of Sefwie and its adjourning towns are under developed because of their distant location from the regional capital Secondi/Takoradi.

Speaking to ultimate radio on the development, Mr. Boahene Aidoo agreed the area had been neglected and starved of development.

He said, “the northern part of the region right from the middle belt is seriously deprived especially in terms of infrastructure, roads, schools and other social amenities”.

He recounted it took him more than ten hours as regional minister to drive from the capital to sefwie.

He indicated that “the entire sefwie area and part of the middle belt of the western region including the Wasa Amenfi District, Amenfi East, Amenfi Central Amenfi West, and Awowin Suaman district should all be carved and added to the Sefwie area to constitute a new region with the capital being Sefwie Wiawso”

He told Ultimate Radio, it’s been long overdue for the area to be made a new region with a capital and a regional minister.

Mr. Boahene Aidoo believes that is the only way the area could have equitable share of national attention and development
