Western Region rolls out statistics on fire disasters

The Western Regional Command of Ghana National Fire Service, says the region recorded 397, 163 loss of property from January to November 2014 lost 397,163 worth of properties to various types of fires.

The Command was however, able to protect 269,000 properties from destruction.

Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) Ebenezer Sam, Staff Officer of the Command told the Ghana News Agency that 243 fire incidents were recorded in the Region with three false alarms.

The Region lost three persons to fire while 15 others were injured.

ADO Sam categorised the fires as 107 domestic, 16 industrial, 28 vehicular, 46 commercial, one institutional, 27 electrical, 14 bush and four unnamed.

He said fire safety must be taken seriously by residents especially during the impending harmattan season to avoid disasters.

In a related development, the command recorded 17 road traffic collisions with 19 injuries and 14 deaths.
