Western Region organises workshop to improve on education

Mr Kwaku Osei-Poku, Director of Finance and Administration of the Western Regional Coordinating Council, on Thursday called on stakeholders to partner Ghana Education Service (GES) to raise the standard of education in the region.

He made the call at the opening session of a day’s Regional Education Advocacy Forum on the theme: “Improving Pupils’ Performance: The Role of Effective Supervision” in Sekondi.

The GES organised the forum in collaboration with Care International, an international non-governmental organisation under the Partnership for Accountable Governance in Education Project, with funding from the United States Agency for International Development.

Members of the Parent-Teacher Associations, School Management Committees, assembly members, traditional rulers and officials of the GES attended the forum.

Mr Osei-Poku urged stakeholders to put forward suggestions to address the poor performance of pupils at the Basic Education Certificate Examination as well as the problems hampering delivery of quality education in the region.

He said education is important because the country cannot develop without well-trained human resource and as such, everything must be done to give the youth good education.

Mr Osei-Poku expressed concern that, some parents are shirking their responsibilities towards the education of their children and advised them to change their attitude and help equip their kids with the skills relevant to the development of the country.**
