Western Region free from cholera

Shama (W/R), May 25, GNA – Dr Linda Van-Otoo, the Deputy Western Regional Director of Health, has said the region has not recorded any cholera case for the past three years.

She was speaking at a programme on “Public-Private Partnership For Hand-Washing with Soap” organised by the Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) at Shama.

Dr Van-Otoo said the eradication of cholera in the region is due to the rigorous education mounted by the Ghana Health Service and the district assemblies on environmental and personal hygiene. She said people must still take measures to prevent the re-occurrence of the disease in the region.

Dr Van-Otoo urged the people to report diarrhoea cases at health facilities for prompt medical examination to ascertain whether they are cholera infections.
