WESTEL donates items

Accra, Jan 27, GNA – The Western Telesystem (WESTEL) has donated furniture worth 20 million cedis to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVISU) formerly Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) of the Ghana Police Service.

A statement by the Public Relations Directorate of the Service on Friday said the donation was in fulfilment of a promise made by Madam Ursula Owusu, Managing Director of Westel on a previous visit to the unit, adding that Westel had a corporate responsibility to reach out to all Ghanaians.

Mr Kofi Sam, Client Services Manager of Westel, who made the presentation, said the organisation sought to enhance its relationship with major State institutions such as the Ghana Police Service, the statement said.

Mr Yaw Adu-Gyimah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), thanked Westel for the donation and called on individuals and corporate institutions to assist DOVVISU in the discharge of its duties. He said the Unit had won the heart of most Ghanaians as a result of the tremendous success in the fight against domestic violence and abuse. “In this direction the Police Administration has decided to open offices in all District Police stations in the country to make the services of the Unit accessible to more Ghanaians”, he said.
