West Gonja confirms President’s nominee

Damongo (N/R), May 6, GNA – Mr. Adam Mutawakilu 37, a former Treasury Officer of the University for Development Studies (UDS), has been confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the West Gonja District. He polled 24 votes representing 86 percent of the votes cast as against three with one rejected ballot paper.

In an earlier tension packed race for the position of Presiding Member between Mr Mohammed Tahiru and Mr Anthony Ayonko, Mr. Tahiru emerged the winner when he polled 24 votes representing 83 percent of the votes cast. This was after Mr. Ayonko had stepped down in favour of Mr. Tahiru who by his election has retained his position. Mr. Stephen Sumani Nayina, Northern Regional Minister, cautioned the DCE not to meddle in chieftaincy matters. He also advised the DCE to run an open door administration and consult with all stakeholders to push the development agenda of the district forward.

Mr. Mutawakiluon thanked the President and the people for the confidence they had reposed in him and said he would live up to expectation. He said he would improve upon the socio-economic development of the district by improving on the road network to facilitate the transportation of goods and services. He said he would use the Youth in Agriculture Programme to get the youth gainfully employed.
