West Akyem Municipal Assembly starts decongestion exercise

Asamankese July 16 GNA – The West Akyem Municipal Assembly, has started a decongestion exercise in the central business area of Asamankese to allow free flow of traffic.

Temporary structures along pavements of the major road from the Taxi Rank down to the main market have been removed to ease pedestrian movement.

Mr Seth Otchere, Municipal Chief Executive who made this known at the first ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the assembly at Asamankese on Thursday Otchere said no parking signs have been marked on the grounds to make parking within those areas punishable by law.

He said rehabilitation works at the main lorry park had started as a well as a storm drain to check flooding.

He said the assembly had also embarked on school and health projects.

“Under education, we (assembly) have donated iron sheets and cement for rehabilitation of five schools, completed the construction of Teachers’ Quarters at Sukrong Cannan and . a three-unit classroom block at Asuaba.”

Mr Otchere said the Asukyerema three-unit classroom block is at foundation level while the Brekumanso three-unit classroom block, had been completed.

He said works had started on the Mepom Clinic while an office for the Community Based Health Planning Services Compound in 40 health zones would soon begin.

“With improvement in the financial position of the assembly this year, we shall start the Water and Sanitation Programme. and tackle security facilities within the municipality.”

Mr Otchere said out of the GHc 2,340,660.00 total revenue projected for 2009, GHc 1,237,940.18 was recorded.

“Out of the GHc 304,660.00 local revenue projected for the year, GHC 319,071.34 representing 105 per cent was collected by December 2009.”
