A member of the New Patriotic Party’s Communications Team, Asamoah Gyamfi has alleged, outspoken founding member, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby voted in the December 2012 elections without successfully going through biometric verification.
Dr. Wereko-Brobby criticized the decision by leadership of the NPP to withdraw from participating in next month’s by-elections in the Akatsi-South and Buem constituencies in the Volta Region, describing the move as “illogical and nonsensical”.
The former Volta River Authority Boss also hit hard at his party’s leaders for withdrawing its MPs on the Appointments Committee of Parliament, from participating in the ongoing vetting of ministerial nominees of President John Mahama.
Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Monday January 28, 2013, Mr. Asamoah Gyamfi condemned the posture of Dr. Wereko-Brobby, describing his relevance in the NPP as irrelevant, adding, no true party member will speak contrary to the decision by their leaders.
According to him, Dr. Wereko-Brobby, who performed miserably when he attempted to contest the chairmanship slot of the party a couple of years back, flouted the rules of the elections when he was allowed to cast his vote without going through mandatory verification.
Mr. Asamoah Gyamfi told host of the programme, Adakabri Frimpong Manso, agents of the NPP have confirmed that Dr. Wereko-Brobby voted at a polling station near the Fiesta Royal Hotel, Dzorwulu, in the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency of Accra, without being electronically verified.
He claimed the verification machine could not authenticate the identification of Dr. Wereko-Brobby on three separate occasions, but he was eventually allowed to vote.
He said he was not surprised at the position of his elder party man, who he said, acted contrary to the rules of the elections, which is one of the many reasons the NPP is challenging the outcome of the polls at the Supreme Court.
He called on supporters of the party to ignore Dr. Wereko-Brobby, who he said has lost influence in the NPP, after he left the party to form his own party [United Ghana Movement] in 1997, prior to the 2000 elections and came 7th after recording 0.3% of total votes cast.
