“We’re Just Getting Started” – OB Amponsah Celebrates Comedy Awards

OB Amponsah has emerged as the biggest winner at the 2025 Ghana Comedy Awards, taking home three major accolades and reaffirming his status as a powerhouse in Ghana’s comedy landscape.

The acclaimed stand-up comedian won the highly coveted Stand-up Comedian of the Year award, solidifying his place at the pinnacle of Ghanaian comedy after years of consistent performances and innovative work.

His anniversary performance, OB Amponsah Live at the Bukom Arena, also secured the Comedy Special of the Year award. The show marked a decade since his debut and was widely praised for its creative delivery, emotional depth, and sharp humour, becoming a milestone event in the local comedy scene.

In a third win that highlighted his range beyond the stage, OB’s radio programme, The WMT Show on 3FM 92.7, co-hosted with Lekzy Decomic and a team of comedic talents, was named Radio Comedy Show of the Year. The show’s blend of wit, satire, and social commentary has made it a standout favourite among listeners.

Speaking after the ceremony, OB Amponsah dedicated the awards to the wider comedy community.

“This is not just for me, it’s for every comedian who believed that Ghanaian comedy has a future. We’re just getting started,” he said, beaming with pride.

He also extended appreciation to those who helped bring his 10th anniversary show to life.

“Special thanks to Kofi Adinkra and Africa Arts Network for helping pull off the Bukom Arena event. It was a massive dream, and they helped make it a reality,” OB added.

The 2025 Ghana Comedy Awards celebrated the vibrancy of Ghana’s comedic arts, shining a spotlight on both emerging talents and established performers. OB Amponsah’s triple win underscores his dynamic influence across multiple platforms—stage, radio, and live events.

Over the years, OB has carved a niche for himself by blending observational comedy with intelligent social critique. His ability to connect with audiences across different demographics has played a key role in elevating Ghanaian comedy to a more mainstream and respected space within the entertainment industry.

The success of his 10th anniversary show at the Bukom Arena stands as both a personal and professional triumph. Beyond just laughs, the event became a celebration of OB’s journey—from his early days as an up-and-comer to his current role as a standard-bearer for Ghanaian humour.

With three awards under his belt in one night, OB Amponsah’s achievements mark a defining moment not just in his own career, but for the broader comedic fraternity in Ghana. His message was clear: the future of Ghanaian comedy is bright, and the momentum is only beginning.

“We’re just getting started,” he reminded his peers—an assertion that now feels less like ambition and more like prophecy.
