Wenchi youth call for the installation of an Omanhene

Wenchi, Jan 10, GNA – Mr Kwame Damoah, the Chairman of Wenchi Youth Association, has appealed to kingmakers of Wenchi to install a chief to succeed the Osagyefo Ampem Abrefa Mbore Bediatuo VI, the late Omanhene of Wenchi Traditional Area.

He told the GNA in an interview that no development had taken place in the area since the death of the Omanhene.

Mr Damoah expressed concern about a long-standing impasse between the two royal families, the Ahemfie Yefri and Sofoase Yefri, and called on them to unite, co-operate and nominate a dynamic chief for the area as soon as possible.

“Litigation and chieftaincy disputes do not augur well for the reconstruction of a nation and the two factions must forget about the past for the rapid socio-economic development of the area”, he said. Mr Adjei Tweneboah, the President of the association, said “2006 is a year of reconciliation and forgiveness in the Wenchi District” and appealed to Moslems and Christians in the area to pray for the successful nomination and installation of a new chief. He called on the government and Wenchi District Assembly to help the people to initiate and complete more development projects in the district.

Mr Tweneboah noted with regret that almost all the towns, which used to serve under the district, were more developed than Wenchi, the district capital.

He appealed to non-resident citizens to seek investors for the area to ensure rapid development.
