Wenchi District needs DCE-Citizens

Wenchi (B/A), Mar. 10, GNA – Some concerned citizens at Wenchi in Brong Ahafo have appealed to President John Agyekum Kufuor to appoint a District Chief Executive for Wenchi District without delay to advance the area’s development.

The former DCE, Mr Joe Danquah, is now the MP for the new Tain District.

Nana Poku-Kasampe, Senior Administrative Officer of the Ghana Education Service at Wenchi noted that the appointment of a dynamic DCE would help improve conditions in the district. “Wenchi District lacks more development projects and social amenities”, he said.

Nana Kasampe expressed regret that some districts, notably Kintampo, Nkoranza, Techiman and Atebubu, which used to be under the jurisdiction of Wenchi District were now more developed, because past governments ignored it.

“Even though Wenchi is the home town of the late Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, Prime Minister of the Second Republic, the town still lacks many social amenities like good drinking water, good roads and streets”, the senior administrative officer said.

Nana Kasampe commended President Kufuor for appointing Professor Gyan Baffour, MP for Wenchi, as Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning.
