Wenchi District Assembly realises about 682 million cedis in revenue

Wenchi(B/A), Dec. 28, GNA 96 Wenchi District Assembly realised 681,574,632 cedis in revenue by the end of October this year out of its estimated target of 1,081,500,000 cedis for the year.

Madam Ibrahim Binti Farizana, Wenchi District Chief Executive, who announced this when addressing the maiden meeting of the assembly at Wenchi urged the assembly members, unit committees and area councils to help educate the people to pay their taxes to improve the assembly’s poor revenue mobilization. She stressed the need for pragmatic measures to improve revenue mobilisation because the assembly could not depend solely on the assemblies Common Fund to develop the district.

“The people must pay their taxes to enable the assembly generate enough revenue to meet its developmental needs,” she added. Madam Farizana announced that the assembly had acquired about 263 hectares for the Youth in Agriculture programme in the district and about 300 youth from Branam, Ayayo and Amponsakrom would be employed. She said about 47,184,560 cedis had been provided for the purchase of fuel and other lubricants for three tractors allocated to the district for the project.

Madam Farizana said the assembly would spend about 138.9 million cedis this year to sponsor teacher trainees, nursing assistants as well as brilliant but needy students in Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary Schools. She said 15 selected students in tertiary institutions would also be assisted with 44.9 million cedis while five basic schools at Amponsakrom, Kanease, New Wenchi, Kwame Pensag had been selected to benefit from the national school feeding programme. Mr Yaw Opoku Atuahene, Presiding member, called on the assembly members to eschew partisan politics and unite for the development of the district.
