We’ll expose the EC in Court – Awuku charges

A Deputy Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Awuku, says the NPP have ample evidence to substantiate its claim of electoral fraud in the just ended general election.

“We have enough documents that will expose some of the nefarious activities that took place during the election period,” Mr Awuku insisted.

According to him, the NPP decision to go to court was as a result of the hardcore evidence that was gathered and the party’s conviction of getting the Supreme Court overturn the results.

He explained that the outcome of the case will be historic and present Africa the opportunity to deepen her nascent democracy.

Speaking to Citi Fm in Accra on Friday, Mr. Awuku pointed out that the results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan were fraught with several irregularities.

He added: “If you take the figures polling station by polling station, what every candidate and party had you will realize they do not correspond with the number of registered voters.

“Electoral register was given to my party on 24th of November, we voted on the 7th of December, we had less than three weeks to go through a voter register of 14 million, it is no joke, that is why the parties were complaining two months to elections we don’t have a register and the Electoral Commissioner was busily creating new constituencies at that time.”

Meanwhile, lawyers of the party have filed a petition at the Supreme Court, giving meaning to the party’s declaration to seek the nullification of the results which saw President John Mahama romping home as winner with 50.70 per cent of the total valid votes cast.
