We’ll disown rubble rousers – NDC, NPP

Parties in the election petition case have resolved not to shield any supporter whose actions threaten the peace of the country before and after the final Supreme Court verdict of the disputed elections.

Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Adjei and his colleague from the main opposition, New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, after a closed door meeting with the National Security Coordinator reiterated their commitment toward ensuring that the country continues to enjoy peace regardless of who emerges victor in the landmark case.

“If we identify one to be a potential trouble causer doing something that the majority will not do given the initiatives that have been mobilised to this stage, we will give him away to the authorities,” the NDC chairman warned.

Dr. Kwabena Adjei added that they have also appealed to the security agencies not to apply full force on anybody who foments trouble.

The NPP chairman also cautioned the media against compromising the country’s peace while carrying out their duty of disseminating information to the public.

Jake Obetsebi Lamptey said: “We don’t want to take people’s free speech away from them, but we are also getting the media to help us lessen the tension within the country so that those who will come and speak very loosely can stop speaking loosely.”

The meeting was part of measures being undertaken by the National Security to engage the leadership of political parties after a series of similar meetings by other organizations, including religious bodies ahead of the court’s pronouncement of the final verdict of the disputed 2012 presidential poll.
