Accra, Feb. 3, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday expressed his Administration’s commitment to maintain fruitful diplomatic relations with Ghana’s neighbours, development partners and the international community in general.
“For the past four years, the nation has pursued a foreign policy of good neighbourliness in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Sub-Region and Africa,” the President pointed out.
“With the rest of the world, the policy has been strategic geo-politics to the mutual advantage of the nation and its partners.”
Unveiling his agenda in the State of the Nation Address to Parliament, President Kufuor said Ghana would speedily develop in the next four years through the execution of strategies formulated under Human Resource Development, Private Sector Development and Good Governance.
President Kufuor said this would ensure the creation of a just, prosperous and humane nation for all the citizenry. He noted that the good neighbourliness policy had earned Ghana a credible international image that had also engendered significant investment opportunities.
President Kufuor noted that the continuance of the policy would increase foreign direct investments for the nation’s socio-economic growth.
He said Ghana’s commitment to ECOWAS and the African Union with the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) programme would be paramount.
He urged the country’s development partners to assist it in its agenda towards the creation of a just, humane and prosperous Ghana.
A cross-section of the society, including representatives of public institutions, civil society groups, the Diplomatic Community and traditional councils were in the House to have a first-hand knowledge of the Address, delivered to the First Session of the Fourth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
