Accra, Sept. 22, GNA – The National Executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is strategically observing Former President Jerry John Rawlings and would caution him when necessary.
Mr Kwamena Ahwoi, Member of the National Executive of NDC, told the Patriotic Party (NPP) government than for the NDC, adding: “Why would the NPP spend time reacting to every statement and move of the Ex-President if they thought those statements were working against the NDC?”
Mr Ahwoi, who was clarifying a point the NDC raised at a press conference it held on some pronouncements of the NPP, said it had come to the notice of the Party Executive that there was some amount of public concern about a perceived negative effect of Former President Rawlings’ recent statements about the NPP on the NDC.
“We as Party Executive are of a different opinion. We are also aware of the following Rawlings’ commands in the party and what his actions are, if wrongly timed and misplaced can do to the party, but for now we think his action and statement are working against the NPP.”
He said the NDC National Executive had a firm strategy up its sleeves with regards to the ex-President’s recent actions, adding that as the strategy unfolded over time his recent actions would have worked for the NDC.
Mr Lee Ocran, Deputy Chairman of the Party, told Journalists that the NDC National Executive was fully aware that because of Ex-President Rawlings’ stature and the grassroots support that he commanded, anytime he sneezed; President John Agyekum Kufuor and his government caught a cold.
That, he said was the reason for so much pandemonium within the ranks of the NPP government when ex-President Rawlings described it as “the worst in the history of this country.”
“We believe that the description is the Ex-President’s subjective descriptive assessment of the NPP government’s performance,” he said. “It is just like President Kufuor himself and Mr Asamoah-Boateng and other leading NPP personalities describing the NDC as having left a mess behind, he said.
