We’ll arrest those who chased out DCE – Police assures

The Police in the Sissala West District say they will soon arrest members of the New Patriotic Party youth group who chased out the District Chief Executive, Mohammad Bakor, out of his office at Gwollu Thursday District Police Commander, ASP Gai Raymond told Onua FM Friday that they have identified the persons who were behind the act and would soon be invited for questioning that will lead to the arrest of those persons.

The Commander explained the Police did not arrest the people the very moment the incident happened because they did not want to heighten the tension at the time.

The youth group on Thursday stormed the District Assembly to demand the removal of the Bakor, claiming he has betrayed them on an agreement they reached with regards to the appointment of their candidate as the coordinator of the Micro-finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) for the district.

The Police Commander said no one involved would be allowed to go scot-free and that they have identified the leaders of the youth group who will assist the Police to arrest the perpetrators.

“The condition was such that if we want to detain them at that time, [it] would have ended up creating more tension so we had to exercise discretion; it is not as if they will not be arrested” ASP Gai told Onua FM.

He said though he could not discuss how the arrest will be, he said “you can be rest assured that their leaders will be invited” Meanwhile, he said the district is understaffed hence they mostly have to fall on personnel from the Tamale Regional Police Headquarters anytime there is a situation that require more men to intervene.

“…the appropriate authorities are aware. I can tell you that the Regional Commander is in constant contact with me and if there is problem, he sends me reinforcement. I don’t have rooms currently so I cannot say I need 100 men or something,” he said.
