Mr Albert Sam, Chairman of the Weija Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday cautioned foreigners and “strangers” not to participate in the biometric voter registration exercise which begins on Saturday, March 24.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr Sam said they had information that some “alleged strangers” residing at Ablekuma, Olebu, Tomefa, all within the constituency, were preparing to register as citizens.
He said “We are warning them not to attempt to register because we have our polling agents there to assist other officers of the Electoral Commission to weed out such imposters”.
On the Constituency’s preparedness towards the exercise, Mr Sam said two polling agents would be stationed at each of the 53 polling stations, while other agents would be going from house to house to encourage them to register to enable them to exercise their franchise in December.
He said the new electoral arrangement, which would not give room for proxy voting and transferring of votes, was ideal since it would encourage people to stay within their constituencies to vote and ease the burden of political parties “Who are expected by some voters to sponsor their trips to their hometowns and other places to vote on Election Day”.**
