“Wee” seller jailed ten years

Kumasi, Sept. 2, GNA – Abubakar Sadique, a notorious Indian hemp (Wee) seller was on Tuesday sentenced to ten years imprisonment, in hard labour by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Court, for selling the substance contrary to the laws of the land.

The convict in his late twenties pleaded not guilty to the offence, but was found guilty in the course of the trial. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Wilfred Salia told the Court presided over by Mr Adjei Frimpong that Sadique, who doubles as a driver’s mate was arrested on October 7 last year, upon a tip off when he was selling “wee” at Jamasi near Ejisu where he lived. He said, the convict’s home was searched and the Police found two wrappers of the substance in his jeans trousers, in addition to a quantity found in a polythene bag, hidden in a mango tree on his compound.

The Police also found pieces of cement papers, which is normally used in wrapping the Indian hemp. Chief Inspector Salia explained that, the seized substance was sent to the forensic laboratory in Accra where it was found to “wee”, thus, he was charged and arraigned before court.
