Wee farmers asked to destroy farms

Adumasa (Ash), Aug 16, GNA- Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, the Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive, has called on farmers who cultivate marijuana on their farms, to destroy the narcotic crops voluntarily before they are arrested and prosecuted.

He was speaking at a public campaign at Adumasa, on narcotic drugs, organised by the National Independent Society (NIS), a non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Board (NCB). Mr Afrifa advised drug traffickers in the District to stop the illegal trade.

The campaign was on the theme: “Fighting Against Drug Abuse And Trafficking”.

Mr Solomon Stanley Ayo, Deputy Education Officer of the NCB, said last year 103 people were involved in narcotic cases. He said between January and July this year, 54 cases involving 78 people had been reported.

Mr Adams Boakye-Yiadom, President of NIS, expressed concern that children between 10 and 13 were involved in drug related cases. He called for narcotics tribunal to deal exclusively with drug cases. 16 Aug. 04
