Website to build capacity of the youth on health issues inaugurated

Kumasi, Nov. 5, GNA – Professor William Otto Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has urged health-based organizations to step up education of the youth on reproductive health issues.

He said it was important that young people were adequately sensitized on family planning, sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) and safe motherhood if the country was to achieve the Millennium Development Goal on health.

Professor Ellis said this in a speech read for him at the inauguration of a youth website – “www.youthghana.org” in Kumasi.

Created and sponsored by the National Youth Council, its goal is to provide access to the youth to update their knowledge on health, education, constitution, governance and youth policies. It is part of a youth project being developed by the Council to broaden its Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) base for efficient work.

Professor Ellis commended the Council for the initiative and stressed the need for the nation to invest in ICT education. This, he said, was the way forward for accelerated socio-economic progress.

Mr Kofi Opoku-Manu, Ashanti Regional Minister, said he was happy that the Council was taking steps to assist the youth to broaden their knowledge base.
