We would make Area Councils more functional-DCE

Kodie (Ash), Dec 30, GNA – The Afigya-Kwabre District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, has pledged the assembly’s resolve to ensure that Area Councils in the district become more functional. This would help the assembly to significantly raise its revenue collection to address the development challenges of communities.

He said basic rate and other levies on burial, stray animals, kerosene sellers, entertainment spot, herbalists, bush meat sellers, sand and stone winning and dog license, for example, could be collected by the councils on behalf of the assembly.

Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku was addressing a general meeting of the District Assembly at Kodie to discuss ways of injecting some pace into the progress of the district.

He urged the assembly members to work in concert with chiefs and Unit Committees in their communities to improve the living conditions of their people.

“Attitudes that bring division, disunity, anxiety and animosity must be discarded”, he said.
