The Coalition of Unemployed Private Nurses says their picketing at the Ministry of Health(MoH) continues unabated Tuesday, until government gives them a definite date for their postings.
Dozens of unemployed private nurses on Monday, 31 July picketed the Ministry of Health (MoH) over government’s failure to post them.
The members of the group, who are Private Nurses have remained jobless several years after completing colleges of health.
Director of Operations of the group, Richmond Asomaning told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM that they’ve been sidelined in the ongoing posting of health sector workers, accusing government of discriminating against them.
“We’d initially told our colleagues across the country to hold on for us to start the picketing so that if it becomes critical for them to join the action then we invite them later. Even with this limited number, they were inundated with the pressure we gave them yesterday, but as it stands now, we may call up our members outside Accra to join us, if the government remains adamant regarding our postings,” he told Kasapa FM.
But the Public Relations Officer for the Health Ministry, Robert Cudjoe has expressed shock at the posture of the nurses, insisting the picketing was unnecessary as plans were far advanced to resolve the issue.
“What is happening is unfortunate and it shouldn’t happen in the first place. …They don’t want me to talk to them. The Minister has engaged them and they are misquoting him, they are not listening to him. These boys and girls don’t need to come here today because we have done a lot, we have gone the extra mile, we have been engaging, we’ve been holding meetings on this thing as a ministry. Why did they have to come here again just to attract attention? Their coming is not what is going to make us recruit them. The process has already started. We started before they started their picketing,” Mr Cudjoe said.
