We won’t entertain acts of hooliganism during voting – IGP

The Security services have stressed that they will deal ruthlessly with anyone who will want to mar the peace during today’s (December 7) general elections.

According to the Inspector General of Police, (IGP) John Kudalor, the security services will ensure that all voters exercise their franchise unhindered by any miscreants.

Ghana goes to the polls to elect a president and 275 Parliamentarians to help govern the country for the next four years.

Over 15 million voters are expected to cast their ballot in the exercise which is taking place in some 29,000 polling stations across the country.

Ghana’s electoral history has recorded pockets of violence and hooliganism during voting where in some instances, ballot boxes have been stolen.

But the IGP, John Kudalor has vowed that the security services will ensure such criminal occurences are not part of this year’s elections.

“We as a security force are not going to counternance any form of disturbance or hooliganism. We are not going to look at colours, race or creed. We are going to treat Ghanaians equal before the law, anybody who trespasses and we are able to grab, we are going to deal with as the dictates of our laws and regulations demand. Nobody should think he’s above the law on that ocassion. We are going to try to be as a-political as possible, very neutral, very professional and impartial. Once again I entreat Ghanaians to be law abiding and allow others to vote as they wish they are allowed to vote.”
