Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Dr. Randy Abbey, has confirmed that head coach Otto Addo will remain in charge of Ghana’s national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while revealing plans to strengthen the team’s technical setup.
Speaking on Sporty FM, Dr Abbey addressed growing speculation over Addo’s future following Ghana’s qualification for the World Cup. He stressed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has full confidence in the coach and is focused on enhancing the technical efficiency of the backroom staff, a move he described as standard practice ahead of major tournaments.
“From where I sit, we are contracted to Otto. I haven’t seen the employers of Otto Addo call for a change,” Dr Abbey said.
“For every competition, we have a beef-up of the technical team, whether it’s AFCON or the World Cup. This includes areas like the medical team, scouting, and video analysis. We’ll have that conversation to identify where our weaknesses are and how to improve.”
His comments come amid public debate over the team’s recent performances, with some fans calling for a reshuffle in the technical direction of the Black Stars.
Otto Addo, who guided Ghana to the 2026 World Cup qualification this Month, is expected to continue leading the team as they prepare for their Asian tour in November, featuring friendly matches against Japan and South Korea.
The upcoming fixtures will serve as part of Ghana’s build-up to the World Cup, with the GFA keen to ensure the technical team is fully equipped to deliver a stronger showing on the global stage.
