We will not spare election wreckers – Cephas Arthur

The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service Supt Cephas Arthur, has warned to deal ruthlessly with politicians who will want to cause violence during the December polls.

He therefore appealed to the various political parties to desist from causing mayhem before, during and after the elections.

‘Our pepper spray, tear gas, cannons and other accoutrements are ready to be unleashed on election wreckers who will steal ballot boxes,’ he said.

He further called on the citizenry not to engage in activities that will mar the elections and at the end jeopardise the peace enjoyed by Ghanaians.

Police have identified 5,000 flash points in the country, which according to Supt Arthur include area-prone such as land guards, murder, robbery, chieftaincy related– issues among others.

Supt Arthur believes all flashpoints will turn into safe points if citizenry abide by rules governing the country.

‘Citizens should channel all their grievances to the appropriate quarters than taking the law into their own hands,’ he urged.

Speaking on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, he further called on Journalists to be circumspect in their reportage, advising them to desist from inflaming passion.

He assured that the service is poised to protect the country before, during and after the elections.

‘We will ensure that the election is peaceful just like 2012 election, we will deepen security in all areas, but we are appealing to the National Peace Council, Journalists, National Media Commission (NMC), citizens and Civil Society Organisations (CSos) to help promote peace ahead of the elections,’ he encouraged.
