We will care for the ordinary Ghanaian, Atuguba assures

President of the panel hearing the election petition, Justice William Anaam Atuguba, has expressed the justices’ resolve to shield the ordinary people of the country.

He noted that, the first position of the Supreme Court is to protect the welfare of all Ghanaians.

In his remarks on Tuesday after a profuse apology from Stephen Atubiga, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Justice Atuguba indicated that politicians appear to have taken on an “overmighty” position in the country at the detriment of the ordinary people and if war erupts it is the latter who will be affected.

“We will care on their behalf,” Justice Atuguba said for ordinary Ghanaians.

“We want to give [peace and freedom] to the people of this country,” he added.

He jested that Mr Atubiga will be the first person to set fire to a market if war erupts in the country, given his professional background as an electrician (and a businessman).

Three persons were summoned before the Supreme Court on Tuesday for comments said to be threatening to the peace of the country.
