We sit under trees, MPs’ drivers lament

Drivers of Members of Parliament are lamenting about the harsh conditions they are forced to put up with when parliament is in session.

According to them, they are forced to sit under trees while their bosses go about their parliamentary duties. They also claim they have no place for convenience.

In a statement addressed to the Speaker of Parliament Thursday, the Public Relations Officer for thge MPs’ Drivers Association, Mr. Labaran Suleman said, “We the MP’s Drivers Association are not happy since we are facing some challenges that are making our working conditions not favourable at all.

“We are responsible for the safety of our honourable Members of Parliament. We don’t have any office to sit and relax when we come to Parliament House and makes it so stressful for us. Recently, it rained and we didn’t have any place to seek shelter. We had to seek shelter under the cluster of trees near the Osu cementry.”

The statement added, “We the MPs drivers used to buy food from vendors at the back gate of Parliament House but they were sacked by the Marshall of Parliament. Again, some of us are paid a meagre salary of Ghc250 a month.”
