Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil has apologised to supporters following the team’s painful exit from the CAF Confederation Cup, vowing that the players will fight to deliver domestic success as redemption.
The Porcupine Warriors were eliminated after a heavy 6-1 aggregate loss to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, a result that ended their hopes of reaching the group stage of the competition.
Speaking after the defeat, O’Neil admitted the loss was hard to take but promised that the team would respond strongly in the Ghana Premier League and FA Cup.
“It’s difficult to take, but we apologize to our fans,” O’Neil told reporters.
“We need to win both the GPL and FA Cup to compensate them for this loss.”
Kotoko’s campaign had begun with promise, but a 1-0 home defeat in Accra followed by a 5-1 loss in Casablanca sealed their early exit.
Despite the disappointment, O’Neil urged fans to keep faith in the squad, insisting that the team’s focus is now on bouncing back in domestic competitions.
“We know how much this means to our supporters. We’ll keep working hard and make sure we give them something to celebrate this season,” he added.
Kotoko now turn their attention to the Ghana Premier League, where they aim to restore pride and mount a strong title challenge under head coach Abdul Karim Zito.
