We may sack Rawlings – Gen. Mosquito

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has revealed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) may penalize former President Jerry John Rawlings over his appearance at the congress of the National Democratic Party (NDP) on Saturday.

He said, if Mr. Rawlings’ appearance and statement at the congress are considered to be in violation of the party’s constitution, appropriate actions would be taken against him, after the matter had been deliberated upon by NEC.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia otherwise known as General Mosquito said this on an Accra based radio station.

Former President Rawlings, who doubles as the founder of the NDC, on Saturday, endorsed the candidature of his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings at the maiden congress of the NDP in Kumasi after she was endorsed as the party’s presidential candidate.

According to Mr. Rawlings, most of the parliamentary candidates of the NDC are going to lose their seats in the impending 2012 elections.

“We do not have any individual in the NDC who can be called permanent members. We are all subject to the party’s constitution so the same laws that govern our membership, govern everybody else. We will listen to the evidence and then the National Executive Committee will meet and then we will proceed from whatever decision the National Executive Committee will take,” the general secretary added.

Continuing, he debunked assertions that the fortunes of the NDC would be affected in the December general elections, saying, “I do not think it will affect our party, beyond the general effect it will be having on all the other parties in the country. Our (NDC) train can never be stopped; it will get to its destination.”
