“We finished Atuabo Gas plant in world record time” – GNGC

The Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) has said it completed the Atuabo gas processing plant in world record time despite the challenges that frustrated the project.

The plant is expected to generate about 150 million standard cubits of gas per day to supplant power production.

First gas flowed through the plant Monday.

Communications Manager of GNGC, Alfred Ogbamey, told MORNING STARR host Kafui Dey on STARR 103.5FM Tuesday that: “…The enormous benefits of gas cannot be overlooked in terms of our efforts to move forward as a nation, and we’ve been trying very hard, working very hard to do the gas plant over the last couple of months or if you like years.”

“There’ve been some doubts from some ends as to our ability to finish the project and yet we’ve been able to finish the project on time and indeed in record time despite shifting of some timelines in the sense that plants such as the one we’ve built, I mean the facilities such as the ones we’ve built take a minimum of three to four years globally,” he explained.

He said a “classic case in point is the West Africa Gas Pipeline, which took 30 years…”

Ogbamey stressed that in the case of the Atuabo Gas Plant, “…despite the challenges in accessing the CDB loan, which compounded some of our problems and somehow delayed the project, we’ve still been able to do that project within a global record time of barely two and a half years.”
