We face challenges in IGF generations – Jaman South MCE laments

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jaman South, Honorable Siata Watara, has articulated her concerns regarding the non-payment of taxes, particularly property rates, within the Jaman South Municipality.

In an interview with Angel News following the General Assembly Meeting, she highlighted that the Assembly is facing several challenges in generating Internally Generated Funds (IGF), with property rates being particularly significant. She emphasized that IGF are essential for sustaining and enhancing local government operations.

She conveyed her apprehension over property owners who intentionally choose not to pay their taxes when approached by revenue collectors. She emphasized that, although this presents a challenge, since both the country and the Assembly are governed by laws, they are committed to utilizing legal measures to collect these taxes when persuasion fails. This is imperative because the taxes are instrumental in providing essential services and supporting community development effectively.

She clarified that the purpose of the meeting was to address the establishment of fees, allowing the Assembly to deliberate and adopt a resolution regarding the fees and charges necessary for ticketing and other budgetary allocations to support the Assembly’s development plan. She emphasized that, in addition to the fee fixing, other significant topics were also considered to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of the residents of the Municipality and its neighboring areas.

Hon. Siata Watara elucidated the reasons for the non-operation of the Jaman South’s share of the District Road Improvement Program (DRIP) machinery since her tenure began. She emphasized the necessity of servicing the machines prior to their use to ensure their effective functionality.

She assured her constituents that the DRIP machines would soon be deployed to improve road conditions. This initiative aims to address the deteriorating roads in the Jaman South Municipality, ensuring they are made suitable for all road users.
