We don’t believe in ourselves – Mahama

President John Mahama has expressed sadness about the Ghanaian attitude of not believing in the capabilities of one another.

According to him, Ghanaians generally find it difficult to celebrate the achievements of one another or the country as a whole.

He explains that the country has made some remarkable gains which are being recognized and celebrated by outsiders but some Ghanaians are behaving as if the country is retrogressing.

“Some of our African neighbors wish they were us. So many people wish they were Ghanaians. On many occasions, I feel very proud to be the president of Ghana because this country is the envy of a lot of our other African countries.

“When I meet my colleague presidents, they say look, you are doing very well in Ghana. But the problem is we don’t believe in ourselves,” Mahama told a gathering at Anyinam in the Atiwa constituency of the Eastern region.

“If our brothers and sisters who have traveled outside the country before are to tell the truth, they bear testimony Ghana is doing well,” he added.

He touted the achievements of his administration from roads, electricity, hospitals, and schools to transport and promised to do more if given a second term.

“We are on the road to prosperity, we are not there yet but we are on course to the Promised Land,” Mahama said.

He is currently on a 5-day tour of the Eastern region, a region believed to be one of the strongholds of the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP].
