Cape Coast Students of University of Cape Coast said that it will be an act of “bad faith” by the government to foist any further cost on students and warned that any such attempt will be fiercely resisted. This was contained in a five-point resolution read at a press conference at Cape Coast by Mr Joseph Justice Asmah, president of the Students Representative Council, on funding tertiary education in the country. The students said they were already over-stretched, because they spend more than 800,000 cedis every semester and any attempt to burden them further will be an indirect extortion. “The student in the tertiary institution is already dependent on his parents, who are already victims of the harsh economic realities in the country. “Any further demand from students is therefore an indirect demand on the already over-taxed parent”. The resolution asked the government to take immediate and adequate measures to address the mounting problems of accommodation and the general deterioration of facilities in all tertiary institutions.
