We are not afraid – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the party’s decision not to take part in any by-election is a matter of principle, and not because of fear.

The National Executive Council of the NPP has stated that they will not be taking part in the upcoming by- elections in the Volta Region.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Thursday fixed Tuesday February 5 and Tuesday February 26 as days for holding the parliamentary by-elections in the Akatsi South and Buem constituencies respectively in the Volta Region.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John, General Secretary of the NPP said they would be contradicting themselves if they partake in the election.

He said most especially, Buem is one of the constituencies under contention and so for them to contest will send a different signal to their supporters.

According to him, there is no way they will take part in any by-election unless the Supreme Court makes a ruling on their election petition; resolving the case.

“It is true we are not contesting; we are not doing that because we are afraid. We are standing by our words. Until the Supreme Court concludes on the case, we are not going to participate in any elections especially with Buem being one of the constituencies in contention,” he added.
