We are more open than ever – EC

The Electoral Commission of Ghana is at present more transparent and more accommodating than ever following the various reforms it has implemented, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, Director of Public Affairs of the EC, has said.

The EC is preparing to hold this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections in December. The election management body has gone through some processes including voter exhibition and limited registration exercises. Also, in accordance with a Supreme Court order, the EC has deleted names of voters who registered onto the roll using the National Health Insurance Scheme ID cards, and has reregistered most of such affected persons.

Speaking on TV3 on Sunday August 28, Mr Dzakpasu said: “The Electoral Commission has been more transparent, more accommodating, and we have engaged them (political parties) more than we used to do to the extent that (the) Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) has been institutionalised to the extent that we have Electoral Reforms Committee with political parties on it, we have the Legal and the Technical Committee of the Electoral Commission with all the major stakeholders serving on these committees.”

He added: “With our new communications strategy in place, when we start rolling it out, we will see communication and engagement with the public becoming better, more transparent, so we will deliver.”
