Water will flow soon – GWCL as water crisis in Kumasi deepens

Ashanti Region Director for Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Mr. Sampson Ampaw, has assured residents of Kumasi that the acute shortage of water that has hit the metropolis will soon be over.

He said water will soon flow through their taps as officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are working on the equipment that was broken down due to power upsurge.

Residents are resorting to unhygienic sources of water following a water shortage that hit them, following an equipment brake down at the city’s water treatment sub-station at Barekese dam.

Some of the affected areas include Pankrono, Tech, Ashtown, Suame, Maakro, Tafo, Kronum and their environs.

In an interview with Otec news’ Piesie Lardy, he said the water crises that has hit some part of the city since last week Wednesday “is unfortunate, but sooner than later the it will soon be resolved because looking the extent the ECG officials has reached in solving the problem I can confidently confirm that they will soon finish working on the machine and the usual operation will start.”

According to Mr. Ampah, the magnitude of the damaged caused by the power fluctuation to the company’s transformer, unable the ECG to finish fixing the problem.

“The ECG technicians have told us that the transformer needs to be replaced with a new one because the damaged caused is beyond repair,” he added.

He therefore appealed to residents to bear with them as they are working hard to fix the problem.
