Takoradi,(Western Region) 24 Oct. Water supply in Sekondi-Takoradi has improved as a result of the on-going water sector rehabilitation project, according to Mr Samuel Lamptey, Western Regional Director of the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation (GWSC). An average of five million gallons of water is supplied daily instead of the previous average of three million gallons, he said at a press briefing in Takoradi today. Mr Lamptey said the GWSC would be in a position to achieve its target of supplying six million gallons of water a day to the metropolis after the completion of rehabilitation works at the Daboase Headworks. Work so far completed at the Daboase Headworks includes the installation of three new raw water pumps and rehabilitation of treatment plant and four filters, he said. Mr Lamptey said the construction of a new intake at Bosomase, near Daboase, to ensure uninterrupted water supply would not rpt not be completed this year as planned due to heavy rains. The project is expected to be completed next year, he said adding that the delay could cause problems with water supply in the dry season. He said pipelines dislocated during floods last year have all been repaired.
