Kotoso (E/R), Oct. 27, GNA – The supply of portable water to the Kwahu area is being threatened as a result of flooding of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer that supplies power to the Kotoso Water Works. The ECG is monitoring the situation with the possibility of re-locating the transformer should the situation become worse. This came to light when Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Asamoah and Mr Joseph Omari Sasu, Kwahu East and South District Chief Executives respectively as well as the Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) visited the Kotoso community on Tuesday to distribute relief items to flood victims in the area. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said failure of the water station to supply water to the Kwahu Area could affect schools, hospitals and some essential institutions in the area that needed to be avoided. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo later presented two bales of used clothing and 100 mattresses to the people. The Kwahu East District NADMO Coordinator, Mr Stephen Anane Ahorlu, said 16 communities along the Afram River in the area had been flooded as a result of the river overflowing its banks with more than 1, 000 people displaced. He mentioned some of the affected communities to included Sempoa, Dedeso, Aframso, Asempaneye and Dadekopey. Mr Fredrick Kwame Ofosu, District Director of Health Services, advised the people to report any sign of cholera or typhoid fever to the nearest clinic. The team later visited Asubone Odumase in the Kwahu South District where 85 houses had been submerged with 116 people displaced. The people Adawso-Jerusalem appealed for the rehabilitation of their road and the rehabilitation of a block of three classrooms and a kindergarten.
